The British School of Bucharest offers a developmental curriculum in line with the UK National Curriculum. It is structured and balanced to ensure the children cover a range of subjects, with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.
The British School of Bucharest Creche offers a daily programme in English from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm for children aged 2. The Creche is situated within the Early Years Villa and offers opportunities for interaction with other children in the Early Years Programme.
Pupils in Year 1 and 2 follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales in all subjects. Through the curriculum, a balanced programme is offered to these pupils early in their education. They are given the opportunities to develop positive attitudes to learning at the beginning of their schooling.
Pupils in Key Stage Two continue to study the subjects of the National Curriculum. There is a focus on structured learning so that the pupils can develop independent working skills while sustaining an enjoyment for learning.
Pupils in Key Stage Three follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales. This includes the following subjects: English, Maths, Science, Design Technology, ICT, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, and a Modern Foreign Language - French or German.
PIn May/ June 2009 our current Year 11 students will sit International General Certificates in Secondary Education (IGCSEs) examinations in 8 subjects. Year 10 students will have completed the first year of IGCSE studies and Year 9 will have made their options choices enabling them to choose which IGCSE subjects they wish to follow.
At BSB we believe that learning a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience which encourages students to embrace a global outlook on the world. Being able to speak a foreign language, our students are well equipped for careers with an international dimension. MFL enriches the curriculum by promoting initiative, confidence, creativity, intercultural sensitivity and independent learning.
The primary function of the EAL department (English as an Additional Language) at BSB is to provide the necessary English support to help students with a low level of English integrate quickly and easily into an English language environment.
